Samsung has announced today that its mobile payments service now supports gift cards, more than 50 popular merchant gift cards are support, and there’s even a gift card store that allows users to purchase gift cards from supported merchants within the app itself. Now that support has been added Samsung Pay users can store, purchase, pay with and share gift cards straight from the Samsung smartphone.

Some popular merchants that have signed on for this service include Nike, Staples, Regal Entertainment Group, Babies”R”Us and Toys”R”Us and many others. More merchants will be added to Samsung Pay in the coming months.

Cards can be stored within the app which means that users no longer have to carry gift cards around with them, they can store them within Samsung Pay no matter how many cards they have, and then use them to effortlessly make contactless payments whenever they find themselves at the supported merchant.

It’s also an alternative to those who don’t want to use many credit or debit cards with the app, they can purchase gift cards in cash and then store them inside the app for making payments as and when required. The procedure of making a payment with a gift card via Samsung Pay is the same as paying by credit or debit card that’s stored in the app.

Samsung Pay is currently available in the United States and South Korea, the company is expected to expand this service to markets like China, United Kingdom, Spain and Brazil by mid-2016.
