ford-hit-and-run

A woman in Florida was arrested after 911 received a rather unusual call, it wasn’t made by the driver, it was the car that called the cops on the woman who was driving the vehicle. She allegedly hit a truck and then a van before fleeing the scene, the car’s automatic safety featured picked up on the sudden changes in movement and called the cops. She ended up being arrested as she left the scene of an accident and also lied when police asked her about it.

The car’s safety feature uses several sensors inside the car to determine whether there has been a sudden change in movement or if the airbags have been deployed because of an accident. It then automatically calls emergency series and gives them the make and model of the car, which was a Ford in this case, aside from the location and time of the accident.

The car’s driver can then make further contact with emergency services and provide additional details. This particular feature has been included in makes like Volvo, Ford and BMW for a couple of years now.

57 year old Cathy Bernstein hit a truck and lowed through a van according to Port St. Lucie police, they reached out to her after the car called in but Bernstein told police that “everything was fine,” upon being asked if she had left the scene of an accident Bernstein told the dispatcher “no I would never do that.”

She was first sent to the hospital to be treated for injuries suffered in the accident after which police took her to jail, a court hearing has not yet been announced.
