Built-For-BlackBerryMany years ago, BlackBerry launched a Built for BlackBerry program (not to be confused with the Built for BlackBerry program meant for accessories). This is a program in which BlackBerry had attempted to foster some kind of ecosystem in which apps would be developed specifically for the BlackBerry 10 operating system.

That being said, it looks like BlackBerry is done with the program because in an email the company had sent out to developers, they have announced that they will be shutting down the program and that they will no longer be accepting any new submissions, and that apps submitted for review will come to a halt.

According to the email, “With our focus on enterprise customers, we are evolving our app strategy to focus on secure enterprise apps leveraging BlackBerry Enterprise Server and Good Powered by BlackBerry. As a result, we’re ending the Built for BlackBerry program.” The good news is that your apps aren’t going anywhere.

The apps that developers have created will remain available for download, it’s just that they no longer fall under the “Built for BlackBerry” program, so users can rest assured that these apps will be sticking around, or if they’re not, it is because of the developer’s decision and it has nothing to do with BlackBerry shutting down the program.
