cortana-commitments

Cortana may have started out as a digital personal assistant for Windows Phone but Microsoft always intended to make it available across all of its platforms, it’s no wonder we saw Windows 10 bring Cortana integration, and the company is actually focusing quite a bit on the digital assistant prior to releasing the next major Windows 10 update. It has started testing a new feature that will help users keep up with their commitments by reminding them to do something that they’ve promised to someone.

The feature itself is called Commitments and Microsoft has already released it to members of the Windows 10 Insiders program. It enables Cortana to detect emails where users have promised to do something, for example, an email where the user promises their boss that they’ll set up a meeting in the coming week.

Cortana will then create a card that will make it much easier for users to add a reminder for that commitment to the calendar with just one click or tap. All email scanning is done locally so no data is sent to Microsoft’s servers until a user agrees to create a remind for a particular card. Users will always have the option to disable Commitments.

Since many of us email things to ourselves frequently just to save a useful link or note, Cortana will even detect those emails, and create a card that asks if the user wants to generate a reminder for that.

The commitments feature is being released today to Windows 10 Insiders, Microsoft plans on releasing it for everybody through the next Windows 10 update.
