Heads up console gamers, if you like the idea of Mortal Kombat X’s online component receiving an upgrade over its current version, you will be pleased to learn that later this month, the game’s developers NetherRealm Studios has announced that the Enhanced Online beta will be launched.

According to the developers, “With the MKX Enhanced Online Beta, we are exploring new technology and methodology to bring our fans more responsive, seamless online matches. Throughout this multi-week event, we will be listening to our fans as they tell us what is working, and more importantly, what still needs improvements.”

Gamers who are interested will be able to sign up for the closed public beta on the 19th of January via the Mortal Kombat website (the site isn’t live yet, but you might want to bookmark the address for later). Gamers will need to have at least one hour of playtime logged before they are considered, so if you haven’t clocked much gameplay yet, now’s a good time to do so.

The beta will be available for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and it will include four characters at launch: Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Jacqui Briggs, and Johnny Cage. More characters will be added to the beta later on. In the meantime you can learn more about the Enhanced Online Beta in the video above.
