sony-marshmallow

A lot of folks who own an Android smartphone are waiting for the Marshmallow update to arrive these days, and many OEMs are expected to start sending out Android 6.0 in the first few months of 2016. Sony did confirm previously that it’s going to update several handsets directly to Marshmallow so one can imagine the joy Xperia C4 and C5 Ultra users might have felt when they received an update notification. The only problem is that these handsets are being updated to Android 5.1 Lollipop and not Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Sony had announced back in October last year that it’s going to update six Xperia smartphones straight to Marshmallow without first making a pit stop for Android 5.1. The Xperia C4 and C5 Ultra were included in those six devices that were confirmed to receive Marshmallow directly.

It has been a couple of months since that announcement has made and Marshmallow still hasn’t arrive. Rather Sony today unexpectedly sent out Android 5.1 Lollipop for Xperia C4 and C5 Ultra, the update adds some new features and tweaks to the handset such as new animations, HD voice support and more.

Some users will appreciate that they’ve finally been updated to Android 5.1 Lollipop but others wouldn’t like the fact that they were promised Marshmallow and have been given Lollipop instead for the time being. Sony hasn’t really confirmed when it’s going to finally release Android 6.0 for these smartphones.
