Android smartphones usually don’t receive major software updates two years after they’ve arrived on the market. That’s because the hardware is often not compatible with the new software so it really makes so sense to support outdated devices. However, many users still hold on to their new devices because not everybody buys a new handset every year. If you’ve still holding on to the Galaxy S2 then you’ll like to know that there’s a way you can get Marshmallow on it.

Samsung released Galaxy S2 back in February 2011 and it proved to be a hit for the company. However it’s an outdated handset now which means it won’t be getting the official Marshmallow update, but that has never stopped the modding community from bringing new software to old devices.

CyanogenMod 13 nightly builds are now available for download for Samsung Galaxy S2 model number i9100, that’s the international unlocked version, users simply have to flash this custom ROM on their device to get a taste of modified Marshmallow with several features unique to the CyanogenMod experience.

It goes without saying that this isn’t an official update and nightly builds, in particular, tend to have bugs and issues that need to be ironed out so they’re definitely not for the faint of heart. However if you’re familiar with rooting of the device and flashing of custom ROMs, you now have an option available to you if Marshmallow is really what you desire.
