lg-g5_hands-on_25Do you find it disheartening to know that just because you live in a certain geographical region, the smartphone that you purchase would be “lesser” in some sense than the one that is released elsewhere? For instance, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in South Korea and China are said to be missing out on the Samsung logo in front, while those living in Canada will have an Exynos-powered model rather than the US-bound model that runs on the Snapdragon 820 SoC. Here we are with word that those living in Latin America will pick up the LG G5, except that is has been souped down.

The LG G5 is one of the first Snapdragon 820-powered smartphones to be announced in 2016, where it will apparently arrive with a Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB of RAM, accompanied by 32GB of internal memory. However, it looks like LG’s sales manager for Chile, Cristián Correa, has confirmed that those living in Latin America will still be able to pick up the LG G5, except that it will carry a slower Snapdragon 652 chipset and 3GB of RAM.

While it will be fast, it will not be as fast as the Snapdragon 820 which has the advantage of four custom-designed Kryo cores clocked at up to 2.2 GHz, whereas the Snapdragon 652 comes with a quartet of stock ARM Cortex A72 and four Cortex A53 clocked at up to 1.8GHz. Having less RAM and a weaker graphics unit also does not help its case, clearly making the Latin America model more of an upper mid-range device compared to be a flagship. There will also be no support for the VR 360 headset in that part of the world where the LG G5 is concerned, and the reason behind this move is because of the currency appreciation situation in Latin American countries as well as a lack of interest in VR entertainment.

I suppose this is the alleged LG G5 Lite that we talked about earlier on.
