A new update of Skype for iOS has been released today and it focuses on making it simple for users to collaborate and get things done on the move. Skype for iOS now has native support for Microsoft Office documents which means that they can easily be opened within the Skype app itself on iPhone and iPad. It doesn’t get easier than this.

This latest feature follows the integration of free voice and video calling in Office Online and Outlook.com, which allows users to see and talk to their Skype contacts even when they’re using Office apps. With Office Online integration it’s even easier to co-author and collaborate on documents.

This latest update further deepens the collaboration between Office and Skype. It makes it very easy for users to receive, review and respond to Office documents while they’re on the move. Everything is done from within the Skype app.

Tapping on the Office document received in Skype will download the file and it’s then ready to open. Since it all happens inside Skype it’s also possible to respond over IM or start a call with one contact or a group to keep plans and projects moving.

The updated Skype for iOS is live now and available as a free download from the App Store.
