hellfire missilesSmuggling drugs on a plane isn’t unheard of, but smuggling a couple of hellfire missiles on board a plane? We suppose that would have to be pretty daring and brazen of whoever is smuggling the missiles as they assume they won’t be undetected. Unfortunately for whoever the missiles belonged to, they were discovered by bomb-sniffing dogs over in Belgrade, Serbia.

According to reports, the local authorities are investigating a claim that a cargo package found for Portland contained a pair of hellfire missiles and was supposed to be on board a passenger flight from Lebanon and heading towards Oregon in the US. These are American-made missiles that have the capability of being fired from air, sea, or ground platforms.

The missiles were reportedly hidden in wooden coffins which were inspected by bomb-sniffing dogs at the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport. According to Jennifer Adams, an FBI spokeswoman, it seems like they are still looking into the issue and in a statement Adams gave, “We don’t have any information on that yet.”

It would be pretty scary to think that some people think they are able to get away with smuggling a pair of missiles on board a passenger flight, but assuming the report is accurate, we have to be grateful that the dogs discovered it before it was too late.
