exxon-mobil

It’s a lot easier now to pay for gas at select ExxonMobil stations across the country provided that you use an Apple device. The oil giant confirmed today that it has started accepting Apple Pay at more than 6,000 gas stations across the United States. This didn’t really come as a surprise because Apple CEO Tim Cook had previously said that Apple Pay support will soon go live at select ExxonMobile gas stations.

The payment process won’t be the tap-to-pay process you’ve become familiar with if you’ve been using Apple Pay for some time now. Apple’s payment service is actually going to be integrated into Exxon’s Speedpass+ app.

Exxon’s app will pull up a list of supported pumps based on your location, then simply drive to that pump and enter the pump number in the Speedpass+ app, then just use your thumbprint to authorize payment via Apple Pay.

Apple has previously tested its payment service at a Chevron station in the Bay Area but this is the first real partnership that it has built with a major gas station chain. This is just the start, ExxonMobil is determined to expand support for Apple Pay to more than 8,000 locations across the country by mid-2016.
