If you happen to own the upper middle range ZenFone 2 smartphone from Asus, then you might have been pretty happy with its performance so far – at least, until you downloaded and installed the latest Over The Air (OTA) update on it. Basically, it looks like those who have taken that route have reported that their handsets are worse off than before where storage space is concerned. It looks like a software bug in the most recent OTA would quickly fill up the handset’s internal storage with log files that have no essential bearing at all.
Users affected by this broken OTA update have already used Reddit and Asus’ forums as sounding boards, and hopefully something will be done sooner rather than later.
Not only that, while waiting for Asus to fix the issue, it looks like this is an unsolvable issue – not unless you are willing to take the step to root the device, of course. Similar to other consumer electronics devices that have a software operating system, log files are created on the ZenFone 2, too, and they are meant to be trimmed automatically from time to time to prevent filling up space too quickly, and it looks like this function is being prevented with the latest update.
Not only that, such log files have been stashed within the system area partition of Android, and that is one area that remains inaccessible without root privileges.
