Apple has now expanded the availability of transit directions in Apple Maps to two additional cities in the United States. Apple Maps users in Miami and Atlanta can now get transit directions within the application. This will enable users to get directions which include the bus and rail systems of both cities. The feature has also been expanded to cover National Rail lines in the United Kingdom.

Apple Maps is now the default mapping service on the company’s iOS and OS X devices, this spot was previously occupied by Google Maps. While Google’s service has long featured transit directions it took Apple some time to add this feature to its own service. Now it’s in the process of gradually expanding transit directions to more and more cities.

Starting today, users in Miami and Atlanta can navigate around the city by using transit directions provided by Apple Maps on iOS and OS X. Different lines will be marked with their official icons and the app will provide users with combinations of routes to choose from.

Users in the United Kingdom can get directions on National Rail lines. This will make it easier for them to plan cross-country trips using Apple Maps.

Apple Maps still has a long way to go before it provides transit directions for most major cities and countries. Support for cities in the United States is limited as it is, to say nothing of other countries across the globe.
