nintendo-wii-u-review-5With pretty much every game these days being offered digitally, it makes sense to think that digital will be the format of the future. After all it takes up no physical space compared to the boxes and CD/DVD cases that games used to come in, not to mention the manuals that are also bundled inside of games.

However it seems that Nintendo won’t be making the move to digital-only, or at least that’s what GameStop’s CEO is saying. According to GameStop’s CEO Paul Raines who was quoted during the company’s investor earnings call last month (transcribed by Yahoo and spotted by GamingBolt), he said, “It will have physical media, we will play a role in it, our pre-owned business will also play a role. So we’re excited about that.”

This seems to contradict earlier rumors about the Nintendo NX which suggested that the console would lack an optical disc drive, thus leading to the speculation that the console would only support digital games. That being said, a lot of information about the Nintendo NX is purely speculative at this point.

Even Nintendo themselves have yet to share the official details about the console, although last we heard, those details would be arriving this fall, so be sure to check back with us then for the updates.
