There are many games that have managed to become classic staples over the years, and the God of War franchise is one of them. After all the game’s protagonist Kratos is pretty recognizable and he is also a favorite amongst cosplayers. Now we had heard rumors that a new God of War would be announced at E3, and sure enough Sony did not disappoint.

During Sony’s E3 presentation, the company took the wraps off the latest title in the God of War franchise. It was not titled God of War 4 like we had expected, and it was simply referred to as God of War. We suppose the franchise is getting a little long in the tooth, so maybe this was an opportunity for Sony to give it a fresh start.

In terms of story, the game is said to have been inspired by Norse mythology so gamers can look forward to Norse-themed encounters. Heck, in the gameplay video above, you actually get to see Kratos of head to head with a dragon, although given that he has battled and taken down gods before, this shouldn’t be surprising.

The trailer also shows off an older Kratos who seems to be teaching his son the way of the warrior, and as it stands that’s pretty much what we know. Unfortunately there is no word on when the game will be released, but we’ll keep an eye out for additional details which we’re sure will be revealed at a later date.
