detective pikachuPokemon has always been a popular franchise, which is why the idea of a live-action Pokemon movie wasn’t really that much of a stretch. However a report from last week revealed that Pokemon GO’s success had managed to reignite talks of such a movie, presumably to cash in on the hype.

Turns out the rumors were right because according to a report from Deadline, it looks like Legendary and the Pokemon Company have managed to ink a deal that will see the creation of a live-action Pokemon movie. The movie is expected to be built around the Detective Pikachu character with production expected to begin next year.

Unfortunately the cast and the storyline of the movie remains a bit of a mystery, but for Pokemon fans out there who wouldn’t mind seeing a live-action Pokemon movie, this is good news. Legendary does have some experience with video games as prior to this, the company was behind the Warcraft movie which some critics have panned a failure, although in China it seems to be telling a completely different story.

In any case we guess we have no choice but to wait for the details, although we have to wonder what this movie could do to Nintendo’s share prices, which is currently seeing a surge in value following the release of Pokemon GO.
