By now everyone should have heard that Konami and Hideo Kojima have parted ways. Given that Kojima was the driving force behind the Metal Gear franchise, we’re sure many are also wondering what will become of the series now that Kojima has gone. Now obviously Konami won’t be throwing it away or letting it fade into obscurity.

In fact it seems like they have a brand new Metal Gear game in the works that they have recently announced. Dubbed “Metal Gear Survive”, this will be the next Metal Gear title from the company that is expected to make its way onto the PC, Xbox One, and the PS4 in 2017, although no specific dates were mentioned.

The game was announced during Gamescom 2016 and according to Konami, it will be set directly after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, so if you did enjoy that particular title, then hopefully “Survive” will prove to be a worthy successor. The game will see members of the Militaires Sans Frontières that weren’t killed in the finale transported into an alternate universe through a wormhole. From there they are expected to fight a bunch of monsters and, well, survive.

According to Konami European president, Tomotada Tashiro, “Metal Gear Survive will offer a fresh take on the series’ famed stealth elements, but within a unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multiplayer experience.” In the meantime you can check out the game’s official trailer in the video above.
