Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 7 earlier this month. The handset features a USB Type-C port and because of that the company has had to launch a new Gear VR headset as well. The new Gear VR comes with minor improvements as well as a new coat of paint. It’s now available for pre-order from Amazon and will be released on August 19th alongside the Galaxy Note 7.

The existing Gear VR headset uses a miniUSB port and it couldn’t work with the Galaxy Note 7 so Samsung refreshed the headset. The new headset does come with connectors that enable it to work with the Galaxy S7, the Galaxy S6 as well as the Galaxy Note 5.

A slight change has also been made to the viewing experience. The refreshed Gear VR has a 101 degree field-of-view as opposed to its predecessor’s 96 degree field-of-view. The touch panel has been redesigned as well for greater ease of use.

Amazon now has the new Gear VR online for pre-order. It’s still priced at $99 like its predecessor, however, the new headset is available in black only. The new Gear VR is going to be released on August 19th, that’s the very same day that carriers and retailers across the country release Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone.
