Rapper Nelly might not necessarily have had a hit song in the recent years, but in the past he was one of the bigger name rappers on the scene, with songs like Hot In Herre, Dilemma, Just A Dream, and Ride Wit Me as some examples of some of his hit songs. However recently the artist is in a bit of a financial sticky situation.

According to a report from TMZ, the musician owes the IRS about $2.4 million in federal taxes, and if he does not pay up, the agency is expected to begin seizing his assets and property. While Nelly is said to be working with the IRS to come to some kind of resolution, a story by SPIN put forth the idea that by streaming his song Hot In Herre about 287 million times, fans will be able to raise enough money for Nelly to pay off his debt.

This has started a Twitter hashtag #SaveNelly trending, in which fans are planning to stream the song as much as they can to help the artist out. Now 287 million streams is quite a tall order and there are plenty of more trendy artists these days who probably have a hard time hitting those numbers, let alone for a song that used to be a hit.

That being said, we suppose every little bit counts so if you are a fan of Nelly and his music, maybe fire up one of the streaming platforms with his song and start playing it if you’d like to lend a helping hand.
