Pokemon Go and Nintendo go way back so it goes without saying that their partnership is going to continue into the future as well. CEO of The Pokemon Company has confirmed that they will be developing Pokemon games for Nintendo NX, Nintendo’s next-generation gaming console that’s yet to be officially unveiled. The Pokemon Company happens to be an affiliate of Nintendo which deals with licensing of Pokemon characters.

The confirmation comes from The Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara. He confirmed in an interview that there are plans to create Pokemon games for Nintendo NX.

However, it’s unclear at this point in time whether these will be entirely new games or simply updated versions of existing games that are upgraded to work with the Nintendo NX. If one were to speculate, perhaps a mix of both might be offered to NX owners.

Nintendo hasn’t officially revealed much about the upcoming NX console. Rumor has it that it’s going to combine features of handheld consoles with those of traditional consoles. We won’t know for sure though until the console is announced.

Ishihara also addressed the hype surrounding Pokemon Go. He said that the game has been downloaded more than 500 million times since it was launched in July and that sales of other Pokemon products have improved due to the popularity of this mobile game.
