Pokemon Go has demonstrated to the world that just how popular a properly executed mobile game based on a franchise with a history of its own can become in a very short span of time. It has sparked interest once again in mobile gaming and Sony is now looking to take full advantage of any such opportunity. Sony CEO Kaz Hirai has said that the Japanese company is now looking to “aggressively” push into mobile gaming.

Hirai even sang Pokemon Go’s praises, he called it a “game-changer,” and that he was interested in the fact that this game quite literally has the potential to change the way how people move.

He said that Pokemon Go’s implementation of augmented reality to make it seem as if Pokemon creatures are out and about in the real world is a “great innovative idea” and it could provide a boost for the overall video game industry.

Sony launched a new mobile games division called ForwardWorks Corporation earlier this year. It hasn’t been confirmed as yet which titles the new division will be working on but it’s said to leverage famous PlayStation franchises and characters to get things going.

Hirai didn’t go into the specifics of the titles that the company’s new mobile gaming division is working on, only saying that Sony is looking to aggressively push into this market, “It’s quite a shift from being just a console-based business to being on mobile phones as well,” he added.
