galaxy-note-7-design_28-home-buttonDespite Apple not being the first to kill the headphone jack, the company sure has gotten quite a lot of negative press over it. However it seems that Apple might not be the focus of the ire of consumers in the future because it is possible that many other Android OEMs could soon be following suit.

The USB Implementers Forum has recently published its Device Class 3.0 specification, and for those wondering what this means, it means that manufacturers now have a standard in which they are able to send audio signals through USB-C ports ranging from PCs to phones. In some ways it reminds us of how keyboards and mice used to connect via the PS/2 port, but that has changed as USB is now the standard connectivity.

With this new audio standard, manufacturers are now given the choice as to whether or not they want to use this as a new means of sending audio signals, which also means that they could eventually start getting rid of the headphone jack as well. That being said, it remains to be seen if manufacturers will indeed embrace this standard.

But like we said, Apple isn’t the first. We’ve seen other companies such as Motorola remove the headphone jack too, and there have been some rumblings that Samsung could follow suit with the 2017’s Galaxy S8, but until then we guess only time will tell.
