dominos-dronesThe problem with more traditional methods of delivery is that there are issues like traffic, which means that a pizza delivery meant to take 30 minutes or less could end up taking a longer time. So what can one do? How about turning to drones, perhaps? If you do believe that drones are the way of the future, New Zealand is where you’ll want to be.

Domino’s New Zealand and Flirtey have teamed up to test the potential of pizza delivery by drones. At the moment the service is being tested out amongst select customers, but both companies expect to scale up their operations in the near future. The drones are flown autonomously and will come with special packaging to ensure that rain or shine, the pizzas will be delivered safely and intact.

According to Domino’s Group CEO and Managing Director Don Meij, “We are thrilled with the results of our trials, and look forward to expanding DRU Drone by Flirtey soon. We invested in this partnership, and technology, because we believe drone delivery will be an essential component of our pizza deliveries, so even more customers can receive the freshest, hottest pizza we can offer.”

He also expects that one day, drones will be able to deliver a freshly-made pizza within 10 minutes. “Drones offer the promise of safer, faster deliveries to an expanded delivery area, meaning more customers can expect to receive a freshly-made order within our ultimate target of 10 minutes. This is the future.”
