GoPro is a company known more for its action cameras, but earlier this year the company launched their first ever drone, the Karma. Unfortunately it seems that the drone’s life was short-lived as GoPro has officially announced that they will be recalling all of its Karma drones and will also be issuing a refund to customers affected by the recall.
The reason for the recall? According to reports, it seems that quite a few Karma drones were reported to have lost power during operation, meaning that you could be flying it halfway when it would die and just go crashing to the ground. Apart from potentially destroying the drone in the process, it also presented itself as a danger to bystanders who might be underneath the drone when it falls, although thankfully it seems that there are no reported injuries or damage to properties as of yet.
According to GoPro Founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman, “Safety is our top priority. A very small number of Karma owners have reported incidents of power failure during operation. We have moved quickly to recall all units of Karma and provide a full refund while we investigate the issue.”
We should note that this does not mean that GoPro is done with the Karma. The company does plan to resume shipment of the drones once the issue has been resolved, but for now all units will be recalled and there will not be any replacement units offered. No word on how long it will take of the Karma to go back onto the market, but in the meantime owners of the drone can hit up GoPro’s website for the details on how to return their unit.
