While many probably see Blizzard’s StarCraft as being the definitive RTS game, back in the day there were several other strong competitors as well such as the Red Alert franchise. We’re not sure if we will ever see a new Red Alert game anytime soon, but in the meantime it seems that someone has managed to port Red Alert 2 on onto the HTC Vive.

This port is courtesy of Ádám Horváth who has in the past tinkered around with various virtual reality projects, so Red Alert 2 on the Vive would be his latest. We should note that there’s a good chance we’ll never see it fully released, so at the moment it does seem to exist as more of a proof-of-concept as to how certain games could be played within VR.

Also the game isn’t a 100% original port of Red Alert 2. It is the game but it features updated assets which have been turned into 3D based on the 2D assets thanks to modder Sly_Fox, so don’t be surprised if it doesn’t look completely the same. It’s actually interesting to see RTS games being played in VR.

It makes users feel like they’re actually there, or overlooking the battlefield, thus making it more immersive. We’re not sure if one could micromanage just as well in real-life compared to using a keyboard and mouse combo, but for casual play it does look pretty interesting. What do you guys think?
