Apple’s iCloud calendar sync with email events, birthdays, and so on has been available for years now. However it was only in more recent times that users are reporting that they have been on the receiving end for iCloud calendar invite spam, where they are getting invites to online sale events.

Apple has since acknowledged the issue and promised to fix it. While we’re not sure if the problem has already been fixed to better prevent spam from leaking into iCloud calendar invites, it has been noticed that the company has recently added a “Report Junk” feature to its iCloud website.

As you can see in the screenshot above, users will now be able to report calendar invites as spam. What happens when it is reported is a message will pop up that says, “Junk invitations are automatically deleted from your Calendar”. Prior to this users could not remove such invites from their calendar unless they were to respond to the invite by declining it.

This was not preferred as some believed that by responding to the invite, it would basically confirm your email address to the sender, which in turn could result in more spam in the future, or for more nefarious purposes. There was also the alternative of creating a separate calendar for spam and deleting that, which is clearly not the most efficient method.
