Facebook, the world’s largest social network, is used by more than a billion people across the globe to share moments with their friends and family. The News Feed is integral to the entire Facebook experience as it’s the place where all of the action takes place. The social network is now providing users with a new way to share moments using News Feed. Think of them as Facebook’s take on Google Doodles.

Google Doodles are colorful images that replace the company’s logo on its search engine to mark historical or current events. The doodles are often country-specific, meaning that Google can jazz up its logo for visitors from a particular country to commemorate an event like their national day.

Facebook News Feed Messages work in a similar fashion. They will appear at the top of News Feed and will be related to a specific event or moment. Facebook says that the goal with these messages is to provide people with more ways to connect with their friends and family during the holidays, help users discover cultural moments, and celebrate moments in history.

In keeping with the holiday spirit, Facebook today announced that users will soon start seeing a message from Facebook in their News Feed wishing them Happy Holidays. They will be invited to share a holiday card with their friends on the social network, users will be able to choose from a set of 18 custom-designed cards on Facebook.
