national-park-service-twitter-banned
The inauguration of President Donald J. Trump appears to have not gone down well with employees of at least one branch of the government. The National Park Service is a government agency that’s tasked with managing all of the national parks in the United States. The person managing its Twitter account retweeted a couple of tweets from the official NPS account that displayed a clear partisan bias which is unusual for a government agency and as a result of this the National Park Service has been banned from using Twitter.

The official account wasn’t actually used to tweet anything directly about the inauguration or the man who had been sworn in as the 45th president of the country. It was used to retweet an article which reported that the White House website no longer contained pages on issues like climate change and healthcare and a tweet that compared two pictures of the size of the inaugural crowd between now and back in 2009.

The media was quick to notice that someone was using the National Park Service Twitter account to throw some online shade at the new president and the news spread quickly. While it was amusing for us to see, the new administration wasn’t particularly happy with this behavior.

A leaked email reveals that the agency’s staff have been notified by email that they have to “immediately cease use of government Twitter accounts until further notice,” effectively banning the NPS from using Twitter.
