NextbitRobin01Some of you guys might be familiar with Nextbit as the company behind the Robin smartphone. If you’re not familiar, the Nextbit Robin is a cloud-based smartphone that was the first of its kind, although it didn’t really quite take off the way the company might have hoped for, but it seems that despite that, Nextbit has some pretty exciting news to share.

In a post on its forums, Nextbit has announced that they will be acquired by Razer. Yup, the same Razer that makes gaming peripherals and gaming laptops. According to Nextbit’s Tom Moss, “I’m thrilled to announce that we’re joining the Razer family! They’re rebels like us, they speak from the heart, and they share our need to push boundaries.”

He also revealed that the company will be continuing to do what they do, except they will exist as part of Razer. “Nextbit will operate as an independent division inside Razer, focused on unique mobile design and experiences. To put it simply, we’ll be doing exactly what we’ve been doing all along, only bigger and better.”

This means that the company will keep on supporting the Robin smartphone and all accessories, with software updates and patches to be delivered as promised until February, 2018. We’re not sure what Razer has planned for Nextbit, so it will be interesting to see what they will do with their acquisition.
