Samsung To Focus More On Wearables Than Robots

samsung_gear_s3_22One of the promises LG made ahead of CES 2017 is that they would be using the event to show off more of their robots, and sure enough they did. However amidst the rush of companies to show off their robotics technology, one company was oddly missing: Samsung, and now we know why.

According to a report from Business Korea, it seems that Samsung plans on focusing more on wearable health technology rather than robots for now. A senior representative of Samsung Electronics’s Home Electronics Division was quoted as saying, “The roles of home robots recently introduced by home appliance companies can be realized by adding artificial intelligence (AI) to existing devices such as smartphones, TVs and IoT refrigerators.”

They add, “Rather, we believe that health care based on wearable appliances has more future growth potential.” This was echoed by Yoon Boo-keun, the head of CE Division at Samsung Electronics who said, “There are many inconveniences of living when people become older. I think the wearable device business is what we are interested in and can do well.”

Of course this doesn’t mean that Samsung doesn’t believe in robotics. According to Yoon, the company is actually taking advantage of the technology for use in their factory automation, but we guess for now wearable health technology will be the company’s focus.
