Xiaomi is one of the fastest-growing mobile companies on the planet. The company emerged on the scene just a few years ago in China and has gradually expanded its reach to other markets across the globe. While Xiaomi may not be a household name in the United States just yet, the company is working towards breaking into the U.S. market as well. It’s particularly focused on India and wants to be the country’s top smartphone vendor in the next 3-5 years.

Xiaomi India head Manu Jain said in a recent interview that the company is aiming to become the top smartphone manufacturer in terms of sale in the country over the next 3 to 5 years.

To ensure that it can clinch this goal, Xiaomi is going to have to increase production in India. It has set up a manufacturing plant in India and is now planning to open up additional facilities to locally manufacture its smartphones. The idea is to open one or two new factories to essentially double or triple existing manufacturing capacity.

Xiaomi has had a good run in India which remains one of the most lucrative markets for the company. It doubled its smartphone sales in India last month and generated more than $1 billion in revenue for the first time from the country. It certainly wants to sustain the momentum and take an even bigger piece of the smartphone market pie in India.
