When it comes to smartphone operating systems, it’s hard to deny that Android is currently the king of the hill and their closest competitor would be Apple’s iOS, but even then the market share difference is still pretty huge. So exactly how big is Android? Try 2 billion monthly active users.
This is according to a recent tweet by the official Google account in which the company announced the figures. Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai also noted that quite a few of its services have also hit the 1 billion mark, such as Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome, Gmail, Search, and Google Play, with 82 billion apps having been downloaded in 2016, and 1 billion hours of YouTube being watched on a daily

Other services that are slowly catching up include Google Drive which boasts 800 million users, Google Photos at 500 million users, and Google Assistant has managed to find its way onto 100 million devices across 70 different models. We’re not sure how Apple’s iOS platform compares, but as The Verge points out, it was 1.5 years ago that Apple announced that there were over 1 billion iOS devices in use, but exactly what those figures are now isn’t clear as Apple has yet to update us on that.
