Android Pay has gradually been expanded to more markets across the globe over the past few months. Google has also been improving the payments service and adding support for more financial institutions. Despite being available in the United States for quite some time now, the payments service is yet to be launched in Canada. If a new report is to be believed, the Android Pay Canada launch is going to take place later this month.

MobileSyrup has heard from sources that Android Pay is finally going to be launched in Canada on May 31st. However, it’s unclear at this point in time which banks and card providers are going to be supported when the service is finally launched in the country.

Android Pay will be making its debut in Canada quite a bit later than rival Apple Pay. Apple launched its mobile payments service in Canada back in November 2015. Initially, the service only had support for American Express cards before additional cards and Canadian banks were supported in May last year.

The scribe does mention that Android Pay is going to work with “major credit and debit cards in Canada” and users will be able to rely on Android Pay to make payments “anywhere contactless is accepted.”
