It was reported not too long ago that LG’s display affiliate, aptly named LG Display, was soon going to start mass producing curved OLED panels. It will be no surprise if LG’s handset division sources those display panels for its flagship smartphones. A new report out of South Korea suggests that LG may soon start using OLED display panels for its flagship smartphones and that it may do this as soon as this year with the LG V30.

The report even claims that the LG V30 may not be the only flagship to come with an OLED display panel. It’s believed that LG will make this shift for all future flagship smartphones so next year’s LG G7 should, at least in theory, come with an OLED panel as well.

The company used IPS panels for previous V-series handsets. However, LG Electronics is now expected to source OLED panels from LG Display for its flagship smartphones. The display affiliate is also expected to supply panels to Chinese smartphone manufacturers who are looking to compete with top-tier manufacturers like Samsung and Apple.

Whether or not this will end up happening remains to be seen. It’s not like LG has confirmed anything about the V30 at this point in time, but given that this smartphone is expected to arrive in the third quarter of this year, we shall find out for sure soon enough.
