Last month it was confirmed that Blizzard would be announcing a new Hearthstone expansion this month, and sure enough they have. The developer has recently announced the latest expansion to the game in the form of “Knights of the Frozen Throne”, which appears to be a nod towards the Lich King.

According to a post by Blizzard, it seems that they wanted to shake things up a bit in terms of story and lore with the expansion. “In Hearthstone’s next expansion, Knights of the Frozen Throne, we ask the question: what happens when the heroes fall from the light? When the Lich King raises them from the dead as Death Knights, what will they do with the immense and terrible powers he gives them?”

Basically it seems that Blizzard has decided to turn some of Warcraft’s most recognizable heroes into Death Knights, which in the world of Hearthstone means that gamers can look forward to new cards. There will also be a new adventure which was part of Blizzard’s plan to introduce new cards and an adventure mode at the same time, and this time it will be taking players to Icecrown Citadel.

Gamers who are interested in the upcoming expansion will be able to pre-purchase 50 game packs which are priced at $50. The expansion is currently set for a release in mid-August, but players can expect to receive the Frostmourne card back once the pre-purchase is complete.
