Live streaming seems to be something that Apple doesn’t seem to be too interested in. After all the company hasn’t really reacted much to platforms like Twitch, YouTube Gaming, Facebook Live, Periscope, and so on. However it seems that live streaming could be something that Apple might incorporate into iOS devices in the near future.

In a report from The Next Web, the third developer beta for iOS 11 has revealed a rather interesting feature. As you can see in the screenshot above, it reveals that iOS 11 has a new “Start Broadcast” button that is part of the new screen capture functionality. Pressing it at the moment doesn’t seem to do anything, suggesting that functionality could come at a later date.

Now some have speculated that it could be related to AirPlay, but there already is an AirPlay button and having two options seems a bit redundant. This has led to another possible alternative theory which is that this feature could be made available to third-party developers to allow users to stream content from their apps or home screen onto another platform.

This could come in handy when demonstrating new games to a live audience, maybe pitching an app idea, and so on. However how exactly this works is anyone’s guess so it looks like we’ll just have to wait and see.
