If a new report is to be believed, OnePlus is working on a major firmware update for the OnePlus 5, its 2017 flagship smartphone. OnePlus is reportedly working on OxygenOS 4.6, the next major update for the handset. It’s said that the update will significantly improve battery life for the OnePlus 5. Who doesn’t love more battery life?

French publication Frandroid reports, citing people familiar with the company’s update roadmap, that OnePlus is working on Oxygen OS 4.6 for the OnePlus 5. One of the biggest improvements that this update will bring is said to be the battery life.

OnePlus will reportedly make some major changes to the kernel which will allow it to extract more life from the battery. The kernel is that part of the operating system that oversees communication between the various components of the handset. Optimizing it will lead to more battery longevity and that’s something that customers will surely love.

OnePlus hasn’t really confirmed much about the next major update for its 2017 flagship smartphone at this point in time. The most recent update that the company sent out was to fix the 911 bug that affected quite a few users.

The report doesn’t mention when OnePlus is going to have Oxygen OS 4.6 ready and when it’s going to be released for all OnePlus 5 owners across the globe.
