There are countless games available for our mobile devices but only a few have been able to propel themselves into the international limelight. Words With Friends is one such game. Developed by Zynga, this puzzle game has been immensely popular ever since it came out. The developer will now be taking it beyond the mobile phone. It has teamed up with MGM Television to develop a primetime TV show for Words with Friends.

To say that Words With Friends is popular would be an understatement. It has been downloaded more than 200 million times ever since it was released in 2009.

It remains one of the top 10 free games on the App Store of all time. Zynga’s data shows that at any point in time, there are more than 55 million Words with Friends matches going on across the globe.

“The interactive social experience of Words With Friends makes it the perfect mobile game for us to bring to primetime, following our success with Beat Shazam on FOX,” said Barry Poznick, president of Unscripted Television at MGM.

No further details have been revealed as yet about the show by Zynga and MGM Television. The precise format of the TV show hasn’t been confirmed at this point in time as well. However, Zynga has said that the primetime TV show is going to incorporate aspects from its larger word and puzzle games.
