If for whatever reason you’ve been wanting to change the voice that talks back to you in Google Assistant, you are now able to do that. The somewhat robotic female voice that you’ve grown accustomed to since Google Assistant was launched last year can now be swapped for an equally somewhat robotic male voice.

Do bear in mind that the new Google Assistant voice option is available on Google Home and smartphones. Switching to the new voice option is easy enough.

Open settings in the Google Home app or on the phone’s Assistant. The option to switch from the female voice (Voice I) to the male voice (Voice II) can be found under the Preferences menu.

Given that the settings carry over from the Google Home app and the on-device Assistant in favor of consistency, if you make this change on either platform it will automatically be carried over.

So if you switch to the male voice on Google Home, that’s what you’ll hear when you use Assistant on your smartphone as well. If you don’t see this option as yet just make sure that the Google and Google Home apps have been updated. The new voice should be live for everyone by now.
