House of Cards is one of the most popular original shows that Netflix has ever made. The political drama instantly shot to popularity when the first season was released several years ago. The online streaming giant is currently filming the sixth season which will be released in 2018 and that’s going to be the end of it. Netflix has confirmed that the next season of House of Cards will be its last.

The David Fincher-backed series was created by Beau Willimon for Netflix. It’s based on the 1990 BBC hit series that itself was based on a novel by Michael Dobbs.

Netflix’s decision to can one of its most popular original shows comes following allegations of sexual assault against the show’s lead actor, Kevin Spacey.

Netflix has said that it’s “deeply troubled” by the allegations against Spacey and has confirmed that it won’t be developing the seventh season.

Production on the sixth season continues for now and it’s slated to be released in 2018.

Reports also suggest that Netflix’s upcoming film Gore about the author Gore Vidal might be cancelled as well. It also stars Kevin Spacey. However, Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed or denied anything about the Gore movie just yet.

Fans of the show will certainly be sad to see it go, but clearly Netflix believes that this is the right decision to make under these circumstances.
