By now you might have heard, Apple has apologized over the slowing down of iPhones and as a token of apology, they have also announced that they will be reducing the price of out of warranty iPhone battery replacements to $29, which is a $50 discount from its regular asking price of $79.

This program is expected to kick off in 2018, but the good news is that if you can’t wait that long and don’t mind a little DIY, you’ll be pleased to learn that iFixit has announced that they will be slashing the prices of their DIY iPhone battery replacement kits to $29 or less. For those unfamiliar with these kits, basically they will contain all the necessary tools you need to pry open the iPhone and replace the battery.

The iPhone battery replacement kit will cover phones ranging from the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 6, 6 Plus, SE, 5, 5c, 5, and 4s, which means that even if you have the iPhone 4s lying around, you’ll be able to replace the battery using this kit. This is slightly better than Apple’s offer which only covers the iPhone 6 or later, but the only downside is that you’ll have to do it yourself.

However iFixit counters by saying that there are advantages to doing it yourself, such as it’s more convenient as you won’t have to wait for someone to replace your battery since you’re doing it yourself. They also say that it’s more fun and interesting, and it’s also better for privacy if you’d rather not take a chance that a stranger will snoop around your phone during the repair process.
