If you own or have owned the Nintendo DS, then chances are you might be familiar, played, or have at least heard of The World Ends With You, a cult classic RPG game developed by Square Enix for the DS console. The game was released in 2007 and more than a decade later, it looks like it will be given a new lease on life on the Nintendo Switch.

The announcement of the game’s launch was made alongside other high-profile announcements, such as Mario Tennis and Dark Souls, just to name a few. Dubbed “Final Remix”, the description reads, “The highly stylized and critically acclaimed Nintendo DS game, The World Ends with You, is coming to Nintendo Switch with HD graphics, Joy-Con support, and a new epilogue! The World Ends with You: Final Remix launches this year.”

For those unfamiliar, The World Ends With You is an action RPG that was designed for the DS handheld consoles. It is set in a modern-day era, at least as far as 2007’s interpretation of modern is concerned. It features a unique art style that feels almost reminiscent of graffiti and is said to be inspired by Shibuya and its youth culture.

The DS version of the game utilized the console’s unique features, such as shouting through the microphone, performing motions on the touchscreen, so it will be interesting to see what the Switch version of the game will be bringing to the table. No specific release date was mentioned, but it is currently planned for sometime during the year.
