Nintendo confirmed today in its Nintendo Direct Mini presentation that there’s a new Mario Tennis game for the Nintendo Switch in the pipeline. It’s called Mario Tennis Aces and it’s going to be the first Mario sports game for the Nintendo Switch since the console was launched. The game itself is going to be released later this year.

The Nintendo Switch has turned out to be a winner for the company. Not only did it recently surpass the Wii U’s lifetime sales in Japan but it also became the fastest-selling home console in history in the United States.

Nintendo has confirmed that Mario Tennis Aces is going to have a new story mode. This is now the first Mario Tennis game to have a story mode since Mario Tennis: Power Tour which was released over 12 years ago in 2005.

Not a lot has been revealed about this title today so we’ll have to wait for more information. What Nintendo did confirm is that the game is being developed by one of its long-time sports developers Camelot.

“New wrinkles in tennis gameplay will challenge your ability to read an opponent’s position and stroke to determine which shot will give you the advantage,” Nintendo says in the game’s brief synopsis. It’s unclear right now how many players Mario Tennis Aces is going to support when it arrives.

Nintendo has said that Mario Tennis Aces is going to be released in Spring 2018.
