We’re sure that some of you might have seen photos of people dressed like characters from Mario driving around on karts on the streets of Japan (if not check out the video above). While it looks like Mario Kart, technically it isn’t (presumably due to licensing issues) and is instead known Maricar. However if you’d rather not travel all the way to Japan just for it, how does Australia sound?

It seems that over in Sydney and Melbourne, a similar experience will be brought over to Australia in what is being called “Mushroom Racing” (it is unclear if they’re affiliated with Maricar), which once again isn’t actually Mario Kart despite it being so similar in design. No launch dates have been set yet but those who are interested can leave their email on the website to be notified for when it does launch.

According to the website, “Have you ever wanted to race against Mario or Luigi while collecting stars to win amazing prizes? ‘Real Life Mario Karting’ – Go Karting with a Twist will be headed to a city near you soon! A unique experience that combines your favourite characters, friends and new friends for a driving experience that will take you back in time.”

It is unclear as to whether or not the experience will be similar to Japan’s Maricar where you get to drive around the streets of Australia, or if could be limited to a closed set of tracks for safety purposes, but either way it seems that tickets will be limited so you’ll want to hurry if you’re hoping to get in on this.
