The iPhone X is the first smartphone from Apple with an OLED display. It’s also the most expensive smartphone that Apple has ever sold with the base model starting at $999. That certainly doesn’t mean all iPhones will cost this much going forward. According to reports, Apple is going to launch a new 6.1 inch iPhone later this year which will feature an LCD display and will cost under $700. It’s expected to be a hit, shipping more than 100 million units. At this price point it may just be priced to replace the iPhone 8.

Apple’s new iPhones aren’t due until the fall this year so we’re certainly going to hear a lot more speculation about the 2018 iPhones. Nothing is set in stone right now and since Apple is known for not saying much about future products, we can’t expect the company to drop a hint about the 2018 iPhones.

According to reports, the new 6.1 inch iPhone with LCD display will be fashioned out of less premium components. It may replace the stainless steel frame with one made out of aluminum while retaining the look that people generally expect from an iPhone.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that this is one of the reasons why the new 6.1 inch iPhone is going to be the most popular smartphone Apple sells later this year. It’s predicted to sell more than 100 million units at a price of under $700.

Whether or not that actually happens remains to be seen because there’s not even any circumstantial evidence right now to suggest that a 6.1 inch iPhone with LCD display is being developed by Apple.
