Displays are used in all sorts of gadgets these days, such as signboards, our monitors, laptops, smartphones, smartwatches, windows, and so on. However for the most part these displays are rigid which means that sometimes companies are forced to design around them.

This is where flexible screens come into play and at SID 2018, LG will be showing off a 77-inch flexible and transparent OLED. According to LG, this prototype display will feature a UHD resolution with 40% transparency and can also be rolled up to a radius of 80mm without compromising on functionality.

This means that in terms of use, it opens the door to more possibilities, such as displays that wrap around a pillar for advertising, or using its flexibility to create windows that can also be used to display information, or it can be used in cars, home theater systems, and more.

According to Dr. In-Byeong Kang, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at LG Display, “LG Display is proud to have a pioneering role in the 50-year history of LCD innovations by introducing world-first and world-best technologies such as IPS. We will continue to create innovations in the display industry by establishing a new display paradigm with OLED technology and opening another revolutionary chapter of display history.”
