It was first reported last year that DC is developing its own online streaming service which will feature content from its superhero universe. Details were slim at that point in time but the company has now revealed that its standalone online streaming service called DC Universe will offer more than just TV shows based on DC Comics. Its new streaming platform will effectively be more a subscription service for DC fans who want access to DC comics, TV shows, and movies.

DC has previously confirmed that it’s going to launch original TV shows for the streaming service. They include the live-action Titans show which will arrive later this year while Swamp Thing and Doom Patrol will be released in 2019.

DC’s animated series will be included as well such as Batman: Year One and Gotham by Gaslight. The service will feature DC’s movies too. Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins and The Dark Knight will be present as well as the four original Christopher Reeve Superman films. It hasn’t been confirmed as yet if newer films like Wonder Woman and Justice League will be available to subscribers as well.

The company has said that DC Universe will also offer subscribers “a rotating, curated selection of digital comics” which will go as far back as the introduction of Superman back in the 1930s. DC Universe will be accessible via the web and mobile apps. The company will also release apps for streaming devices. DC Universe will be launched in beta this August with a full launch scheduled for this fall.
