During Instagram’s early days, and just like Facebook and Twitter, the user’s feed was displayed in reverse chronological order. However several years ago, Instagram announced that they would be changing that by now displaying your feed in an order determined by relevance, determined by varying factors.

Not many users were thrilled but unfortunately they really had no other option. For those who are hoping to see the reverse chronological feed make a comeback, or at least be presented as an option to users, you might be disappointed to learn that will not be happening. This was revealed in a report from TechCrunch in which they managed to speak to the Instagram team regarding its feed.

According to the report, “Instagram is not at this time considering an option to see the old reverse chronological feed because it doesn’t want to add more complexity (users might forget what feed they’re set to), but it is listening to users who dislike the algorithm.” The report also goes on to debunk some of the myths that exist regarding the feed.

Instagram also explains how they order the feed, which like we said is based on varying factors such as interest, recency, relationship to the person who posted, and so on.
