Xiaomi has now started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for its set-top box. The company had actually released the update for the Mi Box early last month but at that time it was only seeded to a select few devices. Xiaomi is now rolling out the Mi Box Android Oreo update to all users across the globe.

Those who own a Xiaomi Mi Box can now expect to receive an over-the-air update notification soon if they haven’t already. The update is going to bring a host of changes to the set-top box including a new homescreen launcher.

The new homescreen launcher that Oreo brings to Android TV focuses more on content channels as opposed to apps. The update also makes some other user interface changes as well. A few functionality improvements have been made too.

Google Assistant wasn’t available before but now it will be on the set-top box. It will allow users to do a lot more with the set-top box such as control their smart home devices. Also onboard are the latest security enhancements, a new task switcher, HDR and Picture-In-Picture mode.

Xiaomi is likely rolling out the Oreo update for the Mi Box in stages so it may be a while before it goes live for users across the globe.
