As it continues to take steps in order to prevent the flow of misinformation on its platform, Facebook has now revealed that it’s introducing Page publishing authorization. It’s going to start with people who manage a Page with the bulk of its audience based in the United States. It’s also adding primary country location and Page merge details into the Page Info tab that was launched in June.
Facebook Page managers will now be asked to complete an authorization process if they want to continue posting. This is a new requirement for people managing Pages with a large audience based in the United States. The idea is to make it more difficult to administer the Page using a fake or compromised account.
The authorization process will ask these users to secure their account with two-factor authentication and also to confirm their primary country location. Pages won’t be able to post if they don’t complete this process.
Facebook will also start showing when a Page has merged with another Page under Page History. It’s adding a new section called People Who Manage This Page which will list the primary country locations that the Page is managed from. This tag will initially appear on Pages that have a large U.S. audience. Instagram will introduce similar features in the coming weeks.
